One had to wait until his sons were circumcised for him to be allowed to take beer. Men were required to work hard and provide for their families and it is until the sons reached circumcision age (about 16-18yrs) that they were allowed to partake beer. By that time the men were about 40yrs and so only mature men with grown up children could take beer. This meant that men spent their prime years being productive creating wealth and raising stable families, not being walevi.
Another reason had to do with security. A father with sons below circumcision age still belonged to the warrior class and was prohibited from taking beer because warriors were banned from alcohol coz they were required to be sober and alert 24/7 to protect the homestead and community. A father could only retire from the warrior class once his son had been circumcised and his son joined the warrior class ie a new generation took over warrior/security duties from their fathers.
From the above you can see that kikuyu men were banned from taking alcohol until they were about 40yrs and had proved to be responsible members of the society. So hii upus were are seeing nowadays of 20yr old men wanameza mzinga na kanusu wanapotelea kwa pombe and cant even have families or create wealth must be condemned. Kikuyus elders must reprimand and punish any kikuyu man who is illegally taking beer contrary to the traditions. Only those with families and have raised sons to circumcision age should be allowed to drink. This will ensure that the kikuyu society remains stable, prosperous and has strong successful families. Those are the rules that were set by our forefathers and we must strictly adhere to them.
The other reason why this happened is due to the fact that only old men and women had the monopoly of harvesting honey and brewing beer. So only them could decide who takes beer and who doesn’t.
That was very important in maintaining quality standards since only known, experienced, respected and trusted members of the society could brew beer and only the correct ingredients were used ie strictly honey and muratina fruit and this produced a very healthy and safe alcoholic drink.
Ktalk is not a mungiki cultural forum. Dont feed us with your mungiki retrogressive cultural ‘values’, ghaseer.
And kagege, you are not competent to preach values to anyone.
Let Okuyu men enjoy that kanusu. Luo and Luhya men are doing a great job servicing and impregnating Okuyu women.
I should have added that as per the culture an uncircumcised man is not allowed to take beer, nor is he allowed to address circumcised men like me nor is he allowed to sit among circumcised men. So shurrup and fuack off!
Assuming guardian angel is a sapere chieth , ameoa musila with mature toddlers and one begets a mjukuu , that means guardian angekunywa pombe , right ?
