Ruto like other kalenjin politicians who were built by Moi has never really liked Okuyus. He saw firsthand how they were troubling Moi. By being a threat to Moi they were also a threat to Rutos political ambitions.
The ongoing kikuyu -kalenjin marriage has always been a very fake marriage of convenience. Kales can never be bedfellows with Okuyus. Bantus can never be bedfellows with nilotes. That small issue of Okuyus being in RV is still a problem.
Now, when choosing a running mate, ruto could not risk having a DP with potential of becoming another matiba. Jagathi has no appeal beyond central kenya. He can never be a kibaki. He is a clown. He can never truly overshadow Ruto. If he resigned, he has no chance of being a matiba.
Ruto has ensured Okuyu leaders are tugeges who can never be embraced by other Kenyans- the likes of Jagathi, kuria, ichugwa cannot appeal to other Kenyans. Keep in mind these 3 are the topmost leaders of tugeges.
In fact, it will be cyclic. When okuyus reject the current tugege leaders, they will elect more tugeges. What okuyus will do is to elect any kagege who shows sympathy to Jagathi and who insults Ruto.
I salute Ruto- because of his machinations, we are not going to have a kibaki from central kenya any time soon. No current leader of tugeges is marketable beyond central kenya.

There is no doubt that there can be no meaningful political peace in Kenya without involving the Agikuyu.

The future of kenyan politics is tribal coalitions to win elections. That is why Gachagua is being fought for advocating Mt Kenya political unity. They dont want Mt kenya to have a party to negotiate coalition arrangements. FYI they have no problem with luos having ODM, kambas having wiper, luhyas having Ford K and ANC, parties that those tribes use to negotiate/compete for power. Even Jubilee was basically a kikuyu (TNA) and kaleo (URP) tribal arrangement and UDA which was an experimentation with tribal trust, instead of tribal parties, has collapsed.
If Gachagua had a party and a coalition agreement, then these madharau wouldnt be happening to him, and his case has proven that mtu akiwa squatter kwa nyumba ya wenyewe he can be kicked out any time. Kikuyus should unite under one party to negotiate with others in 2027. The other tribes dont have to like the kikuyu candidate but they must accept him due to the numbers he will be bringing. Politics is about interests, not love and acceptance from other tribes.
