KRA itakufinya vibaya sana kwa tax. Your tax computation is wrong. The car price ($7243) is higher than the customs value (Ksh 600,000). Therefore KRA will use car price value, also known as CIF, to compute the tax. Expect to part with approximately Ksh 800,000 as tax.

KRA computes tax using the maximum value of CIF value or Customs value. It is a rule book on maximum tax collection. Ukitaka kuavoid kulipa tax based on CIF, ambia the seller in Japan to ammend the invoice value to be equal or less than customs value.

Now you understand why cars are auctioned at the port of Mombasa. One wrong assumption and you are shocked by the tax collector’s demands.

Importing a car is a straight forward process.

  1. Buy car from a licensed seller in Japan liisted in this website, http://www.jumvea.or.jp/
  2. Bargain and pay for the car. The cost usually includes freight and inspections. That is why the landing price of the car is referred to as CIF (cost, insurance, and freight).
  3. Get a licensed clearing agent to submit import documents to KRA SIMBA system.
  4. Pay KRA bill
  5. Apply for NTSA number plates.
  6. Collect the car.
The process is that simple. Lakini kwa sababu ya uoga, watuhununua low grade imports cars zinauzwa kwa car yards.

Hiyo budget ya 1.5M

How much of it is loan?

Axela si ni diesel… diesel car hazina big market

Private cars are not for the market. It is private; meant for comfort, convenience and status.
Diesel engines are very efficient on long drives.
Swali ya loan enda ukaulize kwa the nearest bank or shylock.
