Not far from kenya … tuko nyuma
we are heading the Nigeria way
F** nigeria and nigerians.
and the same unemployed zygotes re-elected Buhari. Same way some peasants in Kenya will vote for Ruto then come back crying 3mnths later. Sad but true
The system they have in nigeria is what we had in the Moi days. So opportunities za ‘ku-hustle’ are very few in nigeria. You are either in formal employment, formal business, or you are bust. In kenya, unemployment is worse. But thankfully, kuna opportunities za ku-hustle hapa na pale, the informal economy (which some buggers are trying to kill).
What Of yahoo boys. I think naijas are innovative. Watakuibia anything
How would you measure worse? If the formal employment and formal business is entirely under oligarch based then I’d say theyre worse off than we are.
Smart crime is still CRIME. Crime be it white collar or blue collar crime isnt considered a bonafide source of employment but in Kenya , white collar crime is almost state sanctioned because most anybody who is the who is who in Kenya engaged in white collar crime to get where they are.
True, nigerias are very intelligent. Unfortunately the system there is very poor. To get a house to rent in lagos, you often have to beg oh. It is a closed economy. You go to some part of nigeria, and you just can’t believe that the nation is in OPEC.
Then again, there is greed. So even folks who have some decent opportunities want more (which inevitably pushes them into crime, even here in Kenya).
Do you know that Nigeria still has that requirement for folks to go to NYS (youth service corps) before they join university. It is not a big deal, but it tells you something about the mindset of the individuals who lead that nation.
This is not a ushago town, look at the roads , this is in Lagos.Nigeria is bad ohhh. Thank your God you were born in Kenya.
I am not talking about greed or even about corruption because that one is state sanctioned , I am talking about youths pushed to crime due to lack of opportunities. Like how Gaza recruits such hopeless youths in Oyole and Mungiki in Central, among other groups all over the country including 40 brothers in is it Kakamega ama Bungoma.
If you dig a little deeper, you come to realize that even the likes of gaza, 42 brothers, 14 brothers, wakali kwanza, wakali pili, wajukuu wa bibi… et.c. are state-sanctioned. The ‘local arrangements’ kind of thing… It can be a very sad realization.
To be fair, Lagos is Mombasa-like city: a city with lots of underlying complications. So you go to some places that look poor, only to later learn that the residents of that area prefer it that way!
They are not state sanctioned. They start off as criminal gangs then gain legitimacy by offering ‘campaign’ services for politicians many of who are heavily involved or even were made by lucrative underground economies such as drugs, human traffcking, extortion, black market and counterfeit goods. Some of those politicians then use these groups for organised crime. Its however never sanctioned at the level of state. Its sanctioned by lower echelons of government like police and higher up for example governor Obado, Joho, or Mp Ndirangu and MCA Guyo for Gaza. These groups like Gaza run water delivery businesses , illicit brew and drug distribution networks both recreational and prescription, protection fee collections for transport and brick and mortar businesses, land buying and selling cartels . Or like Mungiki, security, cleaning, electricity connection services at informal settlement schemes. The state simply looks the other way until the gangs become a serious nuisance and threat to public security like Mungiki had become with the forced recruitments and gory beheadings.
The state doesn’t operate from state house. The state operates at the local level. It can be very hard (nay, impossible) to start a gang without being noticed by the local intel. The upshot is that you can’t start a gang without state authorization. You will be killed the very second day. Let no one cheat you. Those gangs are tools of the state. Black ops kind of thing.
Do they really prefer it that way or they havent got a choice? Thats been said of some informal settlement schemes that were upgraded and once they were upgraded residents actually preferred the upgrade. Nobody wants to live in squalor. If they have a choice. The most cited reason for resistance to upgrade is disruption of the sense of community in informal settlement schemes. Good sanitation and better service delivery in time overcomes that resistance. One of the reasons Mungiki set was so sucessful in its hey day was that it offered residents of informal settlement schemes services they never knew they deserved, like good security, sanitation and electricity.
A tool for what? What about groups that about cessation like Mombasa Republican or Radicalization ? Are they also state sanctioned? What is local intel? Police informants or Nyumba Kumi chairs? If the local intel is so sensitive that in a day theyd have you dead, how are terrorists cells able to plan, strategise and arrange to carry out terror plots for over a year?UNNOTICED? Arms of government are run by individuals who have their own personal agendas that sometimes does not align with that of other arms or other strata of government. Remember conflicts between County Commish and County Govt? Sheikh Makaburi and Shetani and many others recruited openly in mosques for radicalisation, how is it that the prompt local intel didnt nip him in the bud plus his radicalisation messages that were openly being sold in Mombasa CBD? Btw the suicide bomber at Dussit D2 was a recruit of one of these Sheikhs and the assasination of his mentor pushed him over the edge. You seem to have a lot of faith in Kenya security apparatus but my observation is that its one of the most lax systems ever where any criminal outfit worth their salt can not just survive and thrive easily with no trouble whatsoever from the law.
