if Africa Had a Vibrant Economy,...

If it was the home of innovation, if we had it in order.
Then, and only then will the black man be respected. That’s my take.

…He has a dream where Africa…

A couple of things, a while ago, I was trying to understand the term ‘Black’, one of the article was about the Apartheid SA. To my surprise, during this era, the Chinese were classified as black. Main reason being that, they did not enjoy the fruits of Apartheid.
Today China is a super power, and am sure this classification has changed.
The perception of the Chinese has changed greatly, not because of the Chinese in the diaspora, but due to the strides their mother country have made.
Same logic applies to Japan, Korea, India and Countries in the Middle East.

There was a time not eons, when beloved Kenya was at par with Singapore.

Africa does have a vibrant economy. Problem is we are not outside the box thinkers. We dont nuture independent thinking our education. All we do is teach academics and send people off to the world. Think about something. Americans developed a coca cola more than 100 years ago. They exported the concept to europe where the europeans adopted it but also made their own cola drinks. The idea was tried in India but the Indians rejected it for a long time and made their own colas. So did the south americans. But in Kenya, up till the 90s all we had was coca cola and at some point pepsi. 100 years later we couldnt make our own african cola drink? Sugar, color, water and preservatives. 100 years. Indian people think very different from Africans. I lived in India so I know this. Europeans too. So do Asians. And S. Americans. I mean Brazilians design their own stadiums for the olympics. World class ones too. Kenyans we would have to call Chinese. And yet we claim we have the best education.

That was the economy that was inherited from the Colonialist. After independence, our economy started heading south.

Too much democracy is bad, very bad for development.

All you do is fix yourself and the praises come to you. Recognition is not as important as everyone achieving a decent life just like they have in diaspora.

In diaspora, homelessness is not a choice. Its a psychiatric disease . Such people are offered free homes but they choose to live on the streets.

residents of utopia should take care of their own, especially those with psychiatric conditions, shouldn’t they?

They should be taken care of but unlike Africa, these psychiatric patients have rights. They frequently decline to be treated . It is their right. So they end up in the streets. There is no forceful medication.
But again diaspora is not all rosy. It has some bad parts. But the good greatly outweigh the bad. Africa has the capability to achieve the good that they have in diaspora. But we will have to change our collective thinking to do so.

To some extent, homelessness in diaspora can be associated with psychiatric disease/s but that is not always the case. There are a lot of homeless people who are where they are because the system has failed them and they have no other choice. Quite often, their goverment will turn down offering grants to organisations that deal with the homeless.

In my opinion, i think we need to revise our education system. We concentrate on theory and forget the practical bit. Kids spend too many hours in school, they get lots of homework to the point that they can’t think outside the box, all there is left is to cram. Bring back stuff like Art and Craft, not everyone has a classroom brain and that does not mean they can’t make it in life.
