True. We live in paradise. You can go about your business outside every day from Jan to Dec, yet our country is a sh*thole. Bad governance si mchezo.

In fact Africa is paradise. We just need to wake up and plan our lives better. We’ve been forewarned about el nino; we have time and resources.
Tujipange before it hits: open up drainage systems (esp. in towns), and allow the water to pass, cut trees towering over houses, move your house from river banks, streams and swamps, and fix leaking roofs.
Cut furrows to drain away water from farms, dam small streams that can trap some water for the future, coz it will pass, and we must live on. And…please don’t be stupid, for those who like to be brave: keep your feet, your bikes and cars away from flooded rivers and weak bridges, you can’t fight nature and win.
No one has to die because it has rained.

Cost of materials, plus they want to finish the job in record time. Americans love to throw away things and replace them quickly, they aren’t keen on building really permanent residential houses. In areas where the hurricane winds get so powerful as to literally pick up cars and smash them on walls, you can imagine the possible death toll if most walls were made of solid material like stone or brick. So they do mainly bungalows of light materials, then they make reinforced basements as storm shelters. Hurricane ikiwa detected you must evacuate, or you will be forcibly moved by National Guard.
