being a farmer, i see that land to be green everywhere. Meaning that some vegetables can be grown. then why cant the son do short season crops to escape hunger? Enyewe no one can blame you if you are born from a poor family but everyone will blame you if you die poor.
It’s a pastoral community, which isn’t about pastoring btw, but animal husbandry (rearing domestic animals for sale). They don’t do agriculture as such, and because it’s the borderlands, waiting months for crops to grow is also iffy.
When he says his cows and goats were stolen, what it means is that he has no livestock to sell (hence no income). The reason these types of places have high banditry is because the livestock can be easily liquidated at throwaway price so it just becomes a vicious cycle of raids and poverty. And when you don’t eat, there’s only one outcome.
Poor pourers are busy manufacturing poverty due to social pressures of having children. It should be a crime to bring children into this world without a plot, home + minimum of 5m cash.

Indeed. Although for this man, we can make an exception because the kid is disabled. Usually, you just ignore such cases because the good books says that those who don’t work shouldn’t eat.
