Tuko kwa chain, belt tulihama

Chain pia ujue ni tech ya kitambo sana but very reliable. Dates beck to 1900s. Belts ni tech ya 1970s

I know. Mercs have been using them for long. I once owned a Nissan B14, chain driven

Hii timing belt ni one of the worst things kukatika. Utasimama immediately wherever you are, whatever time of day or night. Better change the damn thing long before you really have to. Pia, sahau upuzi ya 2nd hand (used) belt ya kushikilia, utaregret coz itakukatikia without warning.

In 70% of cars, if your timing belt breaks, your engine is toast. They are interference engines. Which means the piston strikes the valves.

Easier said than done. To get to that point, you typically have to remove a few things. It takes a little mechanical skill to do it. And if you screw up, say goodbye to your engine.

True, you’ll be lucky to get away with just some bent valves to replace. You’ll need to dismantle the engine block and rebuild it, and your mechanic had better be damn good at his job.

I’ve seen how local mechanics do rebuilds. I would never advice. You really need a manual to get the proper torques and clearances. Twice my dad did rebuilds, they run but after a while became endless problems.

Newer cars zinakuja na lifetime chain…but nimesikia pia chains zinaweza stretch over time.

Asians tend to be very good motor engineers, try their garages for those types of jobs
