Zi unasema nifikishe kwa yards ziko karibu. Unatembezwa kisha wewe mwenyewe unafanyaa maamuzi. Brokers ni walaghai sana. Last year nilisema nitafutiwe basi haijatumika vibaya. KCF kuenda chini hadi KBZ. Msee akanisho anitafutie alafu nimjenge 100k ati broker fee. Nikasema akwende nitajitafutia. Nimepata kadhaa sasa nafanya mahesabu zangu vile nitacheza.

Kidogo sana, na huwa nika deal na the sales person. But kuna ukora mob that we do. For example najua nataka basi ya 6M, I overstate nadai ni 7.5M. Bank wananipea loan such that ile 30 percent yangu inakuwa nka sijatoa. Unapiga deal na watu wa kutengeneza body. So unabaki na your 2M that is the 30 percent. Hujaiguza but ukona basi. Pressure ya deni ndio sitaki…jua I already have a ka small project that na finance.

The biggest challenge in Mombasa in the so called brokers! Ukiingia showroom uulize bei ya gari tu hivi, Utafuatwa na brokers kama kumi hata ukienda choo! Some of them border on robbers and even if you ask them to leave, they will always be lurking in the background. If you show some seriousness with a car owner, they will all be there claiming to be the ones who have shown you the yard and demanding their cut - by force. The yard owners know (and fear) them. Inabidi when you spot a car you want to buy, enda mbali for like two hours and come back stealthily to negotiate with the owner. Alternatively, hire one of those “brokers” (more like thugs) and agree on brokerage fee IN ADVANCE and let him take you around. That way, the pests following you around will leave you in peace. Remember, DON’T pay for a car in cash. Always deposit money directly into the owners bank account. Dont even pay anything until you have test driven the car for a few kilometers!

Next, don’t buy the first car that makes you happy, shop around first. There are many fairly good cars in Mombasa. Mark about five or so then go back for detailed inspection.

One more thing… Don’t be pressured into making a deposit ati because the car is about to be bought by someone else! Kama si yako, si yako. There is always a car for you.

Finally, usibebe pesa kwa kikapu. always transact in the bank(Common sense)! Good luck.

We can’t post personal phone numbers here, can we

To Import a car directly do the following;

  1. Check the website of the trusted car dealers in Japan that includes BeForward, SBT, Autocom Japan, etc. Make sure it is the trusted site not just a fake site you google search.

  2. Identify the car you want and check the inspection certificate to ensure they are in good condition. You can identify several units and then narrow down to one later.

  3. Most of the above sites have Kenyan agents that will facilitate the importation, either from Nairobi or Mombasa.

  4. Seek advice from both the Japanese agents and the Kenyan agents on the ideal units based on their experience. They will be happy to help you.

  5. Identify a unit and negotiate the best C&F. The cost of the vehicle and shipping. Ask the Kenyan agents to also help you calculate the exercise duty and port clearance fees , so that you have a clear picture of the entire cost.

  6. If satisfied, pay the C&F in full or partly to initiate the shipment. Pay the amount directly to the Japanese company in dollars, not to any local agent. The company may take a few days to upto 2 weeks to get your vehicle on a vessel, depending on availability. It will take approximately 1-2 months to have it delivered in Mombasa.

  7. You will be given the vessel name and other documentations of the vehicle so that you can track the journey of your unit to the Mombasa port and prepare for the duty and clearance.

  8. As soon as it arrives, pay the required taxes directly to KRA and get pay the port clearance to your local agent and have your vehicle ready in a few days.

  9. You can pay for the unit to be delivered inland and get it yourself to avoid further charges.
