Guys just been reading this article from some e-paper. I believe the figures are way higher only that these banks dont report for fear of spooking their customers.
For those deep in them cyber wars, how easy/hard is it to hack into Kenyan mobile accounts?
I mean i know the big boys akina KCB n Equity have 1st rate firewalls and systems.
But for the many small time SACCOs … mmh not so sure.
Does any of you wanakijiji have some insights in this area?
La pili, is it true that "Such fraud in Kenya is costing banks millions of dollars and customers their life savings"
or this is another lie from the banksters? I believe that money is insured, so the only loser is the greedy bank.
It’s not safe. I can tell u for sure mpesa is robbed daily…but hawawes waambia to keep u believing all is okay.esp mshwari platform. That’s why it’s ever offline getting security patches
For Sacco’s be careful where u get the systems from, most questionable devs leave backdoors in the systems and slowly siphon money
You can do the following to reduce the surface area that hackers can attack.
Register a new phone number. Don’t share it, with anyone, it should not be available on people’s Truecaller (Why do idiots install that truecaller crap?)
Disconnect you publicly known phone number from your most valued online identities. That off course includes online banking. Use the phone number in 1 for this purpose.
Do not disclose personally identifying information to strangers especially online.
