No. Actually Ruiru river has no rocks/stones but it’s still and deep.
It’s water is however brownish in colour hence the word.
Read for yourself.
Ruiru begun as a settlement of coffee farms after the establishment of the railway line next to the town. Like Ruaka, its name comes from the river that runs through it. The full name is ruui ruiru, meaning black river. The common theory is that during certain seasons, the river would turn black because of the dark cotton soil that flowed into it during heavy rains.
It was the place where the world-leading coffee variety, Ruiru 11, resistant to coffee berry disease, was developed by the Coffee Research Foundation in 1985.
Transleshen ya mzungu.
Am right now near Ruiru river in Ruiru town. The soil looks anything but black cotton…
Actually the water turning black is from passing through marshes where dead reeds are decaying anaerobically (the same thing happens to sewer water in a septic tank). Rainwater that has fallen on black cotton soil tends to be whitish brown (kama mixed tea).
River Nzoia- where young boys were taken kuminya
River Shikhendu- where construction sand came fron
Ruiru river runs on a bedrock of volcanic rocks that are almost matt-black in color. The water is only slightly hazy like any other river. Most likely the name is derived from the rocks.
Exactly!
from which volanic activity. Doesn’t he river rise from the Aberdares which are block mountains?
Ndarugo river in Gatundu.
’ Ndarugo’ is a corrupted version of Dargle.
Dargle river runs from the Wicklow mountain in Ireland near Dublin and legend has it that an Irish priest from Wicklow, Ireland likened the redness of the river in Gatundu to the redness of the Dargle river.
Obviously, the Kikuyu na chinda zao za matamchi couldn’t pronounce Dargle and so it became Ndarugo!
Here’s an image of the river Dargle in Dublin.

They are but the length of the river runs on an extensive lava flow, which was later overlaid by volcanic ashes. The source remains a speculation.
