What you have said is true: the aspirations of the freedom fighters and those of the Kenyan politicians were diametrically different.

The former were fighting mainly for two things: land and freedom. The latter, on the other hand, were agitating primarily for political change.

The latter were mostly interested in gaining access to state power so that they can loot and plunder at the expense of the freedom fighters and poor natives.

And it is this oppresive system (colonial capitalism) that led or caused the Mau Mau Uprising. Infact Mau Mau freedom fighters didn’t refer to themselves as Mau Mau, rather they used to refer to themselves as KLFA - Kenya Land and Freedom Army.

They deliberately kept the wages low so that the earnings of one family member would not be enough to pay taxes for the rest. This meant that more family members were forced to engage in waged labor. In addition, the displacements were also meant to send people closer to where labor was needed. Farming settlers in different regions would lobby administrators to send more people in their areas to increase the workforce.

True dat the other side of displacement was those who were moved away to make room for settler thugs. Kama huko Nandi Hills and kericho those people from there have incredibly sad histories.
