Exactly. A simple example is the construction industry. When you raise interest rates from 14 to 27% and raise prices on fuel, cement etc, then few people can take loans to build. This means less cash for hardwares, less demand for plots, sand, building stones, steel, transport lorries, diesel etc. Also means no jobs for mjengo guys, mama uji, watu wa lorry, architects, civil engineering, watu wa wiring, plumbing etc. So the raised taxes lead to zero development, joblessness and more poverty.
But if interest rates were low there would be mjengos all over leading to a vibrant economy and jobs in hardwares, mjengo, transport, sand sellers, land sellers, architects, plumbers, watu wa wiring etc. The govt would also collect more taxes from hardwares, diesel, stamp duty, kokoto, cement, steel, cess from sand, building stones etc. Also more VAT from those employed in the construction industry.
