I have read elsewhere about the struggles parents undergo in order to have quality health services in this country. Seemingly simply ailments cost an arm and a foot and these private hospitals are the obvious culprits in misdiagnosis and exploitation. The general public,is in agreement that public health facilities are way better, with adequate staff. Unfortunately, the same public has not invested in knowing how and who is calling the shots on matters literally concerning their lives.A matter of life and death.
It’s no surprise then when every correct diagnosis is attributed to doctor so and so and in equal measure every misdiagnosis is blamed on a nurse or a clinical officer.
There are cartels that have consciously engineered a permanent crisis in the health sector so that the public can pay more, and be forever dependent on imaginary saviours. The biggest problem is in the training of our care givers across board. It glorifies the pilot while treating the engineer as sht! In the end,the ship must capsize at some point.
Simple procedures like endoscopies have been a preserve of a few trained fellas who’ve been charging handsomely over the years. These fellas weren’t generous with their 'knowledge ’ yet these are simple procedures that need to be taught to technicians at a cost less than 1000ksh. These cartels misadvised the government on purchase of state of the art diagnostic equipment that had no technical staff to operate. Of course they can be trained but that would essentially make some people a little poorer.
I could go on and on about the tricks employed by these cartels to fleece unsuspecting members of the public but,the bottom line is; People need to start asking questions on the state of our country’s health systems.
What makes you think they are not asking?
