While on a working visit to Meru the Deputy Presisent said “We will soon treat green grams as part of the strategic grain reserve so that they can be bought by the Government just like maize.
He further stated, “We also have an agreement with the Indian government, which assured us of the green grams market. But the huge demand for this crop in the Asian market also calls for us to boost our production,”
Green grams, also known as Mung, are major food source in Asia, in India they have been a part of traditional Ayurvedic diets for thousands of years.
Due to their high nutrient density, they are considered important in defending against several chronic, age-related diseases, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity.
