Graham, the human prototype that would survive any traffic accident!
What you are looking at is the work of artist Patricia Piccinini, who was commissioned to build the sculpture as directed by “the science of human vulnerability.” It is made of silicone, fiberglass, resin and, of course, human hair. Graham’s traits (yes, his name is Graham), were recommended by trauma surgeon Dr. Christian Kenfield and accident investigation expert Dr. David Logan.
What is it that makes Graham so well equipped to deal with a traffic accident? The first thing you’ll notice is its flat face, which keeps its nose and ears safe. You’ll also see that it doesn’t have a neck at all, which is useful because you can’t break what you don’t have. The skull is reinforced with helmet-like qualities (which is interesting given that some scientists are considering).
It also has air sacs nestled between each rib (they’re not extra nipples, as it appears at first glance) and its entire body is protected by thick, tough skin. And of course, those knees bend in every conceivable direction.
“Cars have evolved so much faster than humans, and Graham helps us understand why we need to improve every aspect of our highway system to guard against our own mistakes,” said Joe Calafiore of the Transportation Accident Commission. of Victoria.
