The government will introduce a single uniform for all schools.
This is after the recent adoption of the same colour for school buses.
Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang says they are in discussion with stakeholders to change the uniform policy and have schools adopt same colour and fabric.
He wants local textile industries like Rivatex in Eldoret to prepare to manufacture the new uniforms once the new policy is adopted.
“As we move towards having the same uniform and fabric in all our schools we want Rivatex to prepare so that they are able to play a role in the manufacture of the uniforms that will be required,” Belio said.
Former education CS Fred Matiangi ordered all schools to paint their buses yellow in a bid to control the use of the buses by schools.
The move has since been effected.
Belio was speaking at the Rivatex firm in Eldoret which is owned by Moi University.
The PS lauded the university for its foresight in identifying the revival of the textile company that had collapsed.
“Initially we thought it would just be a training facility for Moi University but later on it became a production company and now it’s turning out to be a major economic project for the country,” said Belio.
He said the government would continue to invest more in education institutions so that they play a critical role in providing require manpower for the country and also play a role in economic growth.
“We want the education institutions to play a role in helping us to implement the Big Four Agenda as outlined President Uhuru,”, said the PS.
Literally the stupidest idea. Imagine how hard it will be to identify lost kids, school functions will be chaotic, venye pamba amesema it would be hard to identify misbehaving schools etc. Hii serikali is being run by literal Ngombes.
Idleness is a terrible thing.
If pupils are found loitering away from school how does anyone tell which school they come from. They will easily tell they are from any other school, the badges may help but why waste resources - Priorities???. Parents will also have to buy new sets of uniform.
Leave the schools be and focus time and investments on worthy causes, establishment of technical training subjects, equipped workshops within schools and establish intuitions with relevant and useful skill training programs. The unified uniform you wore is never going to manage a country - skills.
This is nonesense, lets start with equal pay for equal work, may be then people will start working instead of dreaming loudly in the presence of the media.
Yaani there are a million and one problems in the education sector and these guys have decided to put the Colour of the uniform as priority number one.
I think the concept of some uniformity in schools, especially secondary education which involves teenage kids is vital and even in the more liberal cultures or countries they always impose some limits especially for teenage kids in school, controlling the styling of the hair, the length of the dressing and more.
in this instance we have a suggestion to control the varied uniformity within the schooling sector, which I also think is a good thing.
I think its a good idea, but definitely not a priority, I liked the changes that the former education cs was pushing through, it seems Amina is not very interested or aggressive on the same which I think is a pity as the change in curriculum is needed especially to move away from the exam centered system that we have now.
