The market, which has a capacity to create 4,000 jobs, is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project by the contractor constructing Outering Road.

The market will provide an opportunity to women and youth to engage in trade for decent livelihoods.

He said upon completion, the market will help decongest county markets and increase access to quality, affordable and sustainable food for a healthy nation.

Wakulima Market (Marikiti) to be relocated to Muthurwa Estate as government plans to build a road linking Enterprise Road to Nairobi’s CBD to ease traffic on Mombasa Road.

A lot of projects coming up from Railways and its yards all the way from Mombasa road to jogoo road. Its the revival of the Railway city project and commuter train central station. Alot of commercial skyscraper space for mixed used purposes, the modern train station to link with Soykimau SGR Nairobi terminal and JKIA airport. The tenders are already out, will be done by PPP and picked by the Nairobi regeneration team co-chaired by Gov Sonko, CS Balala and reporting to President Uhuru every month.

No one is going to want to take those shops on that upper floor simply because all the foot traffic will be at the bottom. For that reason alone people are going to resist the move citing that they wont be able to generate business. The move is going to be drawn out. Demonstrations loading…

They should just build a bridge to connect that road from Nairobi Poly/Technical Uni, over the railway yard and into workshop road then to Dunga road…

Though from Enterprise road they can bulldoze a few godowns and build a bridge over the railway yard and link to Haileselassie Ave near that Racecourse rd roundabout

I don’t usually get it when people build this markets ni kama nyumba ya kuishi. One can only imagine the poor aeration in that area especially if it will be frequented by customers.

A road bridge there is possible now but in the future it will limit the scope of work envisioned on the railway yard.

Yeah ventilation is not proper. Since each shop is a cubicle with its own power then they must enforce no obstruction at the corridors or foot paths.

But that Muthurwa market is an eyesore. It needs to be renovated as soon as possible.

So much land is wasted in these old City Council and railways estates around Nbi. Places like Kaloleni, Makongeni, Shauri Moyo, Kariakor, Ziwani, Jericho, etc are in need of a makeover. If they are made mix-use, then more businesses might relocate from CBD.

Shops on the upper floors can still be used for storage, space itachukuliwa tu hata city market and kariakor have upper floor shops that are occupied by traders…
