Going through the local channels list (FTA) I notice that 80% are church TV channels, televangelism has become so popular in the country and something is so common about all these pastors/prophetes/prophetesses… The message is clear “Give and you will receive (more)” “Have faith, it’s the foundation of prosperity” and beyond that the aspect of the ability to perform miracles as they claim to heal every other disease that hospitals have not been able to treat… Cast out demons and also have this annointed oil that isn’t free…
I don’t doubt all these abilities but where we have to place a price on the gospel. This Gospel was given to as for free, someone died and others persecuted for its sake… Jesus told his disciples to spread the gospel alk over the world, but never mentioned anywhere that the gospel is to be sold… It was for “winning souls to christ” NOT souls buying their way into the kingdom
When I was younger, I used to attend a mass at a neighbouring Catholic church and though young as we were the then FATHER IN CHARGE rejected Coins as offertory as it was seen as Giving Remains to God… Leaves me wondering HOW MUCH SHOULD WE PAY SO THAT OUR OFFERTORY CAN BE ACCEPTED BY GOD…?
THE Flashy life of these Gospel traders is deafening, I don’t mean they should live simple life’s or be poor for the sake of the gospel but compared to their followers you’ll wonder who is feeding on who…
Those are businesses selling hope and miracles. The country is hurting economically and spiritually, so these shrewd men and women have stepped into that space to reap from the unschooled. What they don’t teach is that the Bible explicitly states that he who does not work should not eat. Real hope comes from the work of your hands (that is what God blesses). Prayers and faith on their own achieve nothing, they must be ignited with action. For the televangelists, it’s work.
