Why do we go to school for 16 years to learn englich if it is not important? if you learned english, you should speak it correctly but it should be a measure of intelligence. But not knowing to speak it after learning it for 16 years leaves much to be desired

100% Support. English should be taught as a secondary language in schools. Furthermore,the LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION in schools should be in one’s mother tongue. That will eliminate high levels stupidity and elevate knowledge in this land.

Potassium permanganate inaitwaje kwa Kikuyu tuanze hapo. We’d have to re-invent our languages and it’d be the younger generation now teaching us our new language. This would divide the country so much. You’d rather say Swahili be that language like it is in TZ. Been there a few times and I always fear getting ill nikiwa huko. Prescription huwezi soma, probably ukivuka nayo docs here would have to Google the meds

It would still be Potassium permanganate(I guess it is still called so in China,because that is scientific not linguistic),but a trained teacher will be able to explain it better in their native language than they do in Queen’s colonialist language. I think in China they have the Chinese,mandarin,Cantonese and very limited English… e.t.c and if you went there and got sick they would still be able to checkup on you.

I kinda like how the guy seems serious na kazi yake but IMO kwa hii clip ni meffi tu ameongea. So what exactly do you gain by learning your mother tongue na kimila za upuzi. Whether we like it or not, the world is set up in such a way that mastery of English is actually very important.
Kiswahili ndio lugha yetu wakenya.

i dont support hio upuzi ya kimila but your mother tongue is important to communicate. it amy not be important outside of your regional area lakini bado muhimu. nikienda home mahali mzae alizaliwa trust me, you cant speak english to no one. hao wasee hata kiswahili hawaongei. their swahili is very limited in that mtu haezi kuiongea for 2 minutes straight without switching. thats where its importance comes. na pia sisi wa afrika tuache kujichukia, we cant be hating everything african including our languages. indians were also colonised by the british but they still speak their native languages like punjab, tamil, hindu etc to tis day. english holds status as a 2nd language huko. tujipende pia, alongside english learn your language too.

In India they use English and Hindi in almost equal measure. Lecturer anafunza na a mix of Hindi and English na ndio maana India iko 99 Years ahead of Shithole Kenya industrially.

Times have really changed. The only people who dont speak Swahili in shags are the older generation like our parents. More so the ones who didn’t live in Nai. Because Swahili is mandatory paka form 4 it has completely change the language demographics. Almost nullified the need for mothertoungue, like it did in TZ. Everybody speaks swa nowadays even in ocha. Wa Jaluo wa nyanza had never spoken Swahili. Eg have you ever heard Miguna speak swa? Wacha Raila ni Mse wa Nai. But Wewe enda saizi uko kisumu and ma towns inside south nyanza. Wanaongea paka sheng. Wacha nyinyi wakisii who Swahili and Kisii are easily transitioned from sharing Bantu words.

Their scientific names. Learn to differentiate linguistic vs scientific. Scientific is universal,so in every language including Russian in Russia,Mandarin in China where i believe they are the LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTIONS IN SCHOOLS;Beryllium is still Beryllium…e.t.c
