Game of Thrones S6E8 spoiler alert

The episode opens with a reprise of the play showing the current events of Westeros. This time, Lady Crane, the actress who Arya failed to assassinate, gives a much more impassioned soliloquy, using the advice she got from Arya last episode. After the play is over, she heads to the back and finds Arya hiding, bleeding from the stab wounds she received from the Waif last episode.

The actress patches Arya up and offers the girl a spot in her troupe. Arya says she wouldn’t be safe as long as the Waif is after her, and says she wants to go to the edge of the world as there’s nothing left for her in either Essos or Westeros.

The Hound quickly kills a group of the Brotherhood without Banners, wiping them all out with an axe in brutal fashion.

A Red Priestess spreads the word in Meereen that Daenerys is the Lord of Light. Tyrion says goodbye to Varys, who’s heading back to Westeros on a secret mission. Varys says they need friends in Westeros and ships, but Tyrion says they need their queen even more.

Qyburn tells Cersei that the Faith Militant have arrived in the Red Keep and wish to see her. The Faith Militant members tell her that the High Septon wishes to see her in the High Sept, and when she refuses they try to take her by force. The Mountain rips off one of their heads off with his bare hands.

Brienne and Pod arrive at Riverrun, which is still surrounded by Lannister forces. Brienne tells the Lannister soldiers she wishes to speak to Jamie. At the camp, Pod reunites with Bronn (who wants to know if Jamie and Brienne are lovers) and Bronn gives Pod tips on how to fight dirty.
Meanwhile, Jamie and Brienne find themselves on different sides, as Brienne wants the Blackfish and the Tully army, but Jamie is responsible for breaking the siege. However, Brienne convinces Jamie to let her go into Riverrun and offer safe passage to the entire Tully army in exchange for leaving the castle to the Lannisters. Brienne offers back Oathkeeper to Jamie, but he refuses and says the sword is hers.

When Brienne enters Riverrun, the Blackfish refuses to leave. Even after reading Sansa’s letter, he says that he can’t help Sansa retake Winterfell.

Cersei enters the Throne Room to listen to King Tommen make a pronouncement, but her uncle Kevan refuses to let her stand besides him. Tommen announces that Cersei’s trial will take place later that month and also that he is banning the practice of trial by combat, which immediately puts Cersei at a disadvantage.

Tyrion has a drink to celebrate Meeren’s seeming stabilization. He toasts Daenerys with Grey Worm and Missandei, and then attempts once again to make small talk with the two. He succeeds in breaking the ice with the pair, when they’re interrupted by alarms going off in the city, informing them that the Masters have arrived in the harbor for their property.

Jamie apologizes to Edmure Tully for his treatment, and offers him a better life in exchange for convincing his uncle to surrender. Edmure doesn’t take the bait, and asks Jamie how he can sleep at night knowing all the terrible things that he’s done. Jamie tells him that he admired Catelyn Stark, especially her love for her children. He then threatens to kill Edmure’s baby son, unless Edmure convinces his uncle to surrender.

That night, Edmure walks up to the gate of Riverrun and demands entry. The Blackfish tells the Tully army not to let him in, but the Tully soldiers says that he’s not the rightful Lord of Riverrun. After Edmure is inside, he immediately tells the Tully army to surrender, which allows Jamie to take the castle without a fight. Edmure tells his men to capture the Blackfish, but the Blackfish dies fighting Lannister forces after helping Brienne and Pod escape.

The Masters lay siege to Mereen, bombarding the city with flames. Inside the pyramid, Grey Worm and Tyrion argue how to defend the city, but Daenerys literally flies in on her dragon to take command.

The Hound runs into Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr, the leaders of the Brotherhood without Banners, as they prepare to hang the men who attacked the sept. The Hound demands that he be allowed to kill them, and Beric allows him to kill two out of respect for his loss. Afterwards, Beric offers him a place in the Brotherhood.

Lady Crane wakes Arya up, right before the Waif shows up. The Waif kills Lady Crane and then chases after Arya. After a long chase through the city, the Waif tracks Arya down in an alley way, but Arya pulls out Needle and cuts through a candle, plunging the room into darkness.

In the House of Black and White, Jaqen comes across blood splatter and finds the Waif’s face hanging on a wall. Jaqen tells Arya that she is no one, but Arya says she’s Arya Stark of Winterfell and she’s going home. Jaqen smiles and nods, and Arya confidently strides out of the room.
