Shilingi tatu peke yako.Haki nyinyi peasants mta tuonyesha mambo.Wacha mimi nisikume maisha na footsubishi yangu.
Every time I see the fuel prices skyrocketing, I pity anyone in the matatu industry. That industry is flooded which means that they can’t transfer the rising costs of fuel to the commuter. Actually, I heard that the fare from Nairobi to my home town is now about Ksh 400, and it was Ksh 500 around 4 years ago. Falling fares, rising fuel prices is only bad news to matatu owners and other logistics companies. Hata watu wa Uber and Taxify will soon feel the heat if they haven’t already. The only beneficiary is the commuter/passenger.
@Luther12 is there truth hapa, labda now a matatus can more trips in a day than before
That is not how the matatu sector operates. It’s a cartel, so they can even double the fare if they want and there’s nothing the commuter will do.
Boss elewa we have good roads n cars spend less time.
Ni heri Alishababa washukue huku
But there’s some truth in what M2Random is trying to say.
A few years back matatus used to hike fares after almost each fuel rise but not so nowadays.
There are many routes fares have stagnated for a very long time now.
And Kimutai has been for sometime now agitating against the licencing of new matatus claiming there’s an over investment in the sector.
Kenya is headed Nigerian way. I guess, extremely high fuel prices yet there’s oil? Better we didn’t find that oil. My opinion.
I thought Saccos can enforce fares on a certain route. So wakiamua kutoka leo fare ni 700 people will rebel kidogo but will eventually pay, na itakaa hivyo. Hapa Nairobi commuters ndio wataumia sana, but I expect fares to rise by 10-20 bob in Nairobi routes.
Hiyo oil ya Turkana hakuna mahali inatumika hapa. We are still importing oil for consumption.
People just move to the competitors. Too many Sacco’s to choose from. If it were that easy, fare yako ingekuwa imepanda since 2013, has it???In most long distance routes, kwanza imeshuka
jubilee and nasa tuko pamoja. tujikaze watu wangu. we just wait for the next 5 years we vote uhuru again abeg. hes just done alot for this country
Sio kwa ubaya but I don’t feel for those matatus. In most cases any additional charges never get to the matatu owner but to dereva/makanga/Sacco. The owners only get a standard amount which never change!
Key word in that comment: heard.
The one thing I want implemented ASAP is for diesel and kerosene to be sold at same price.
Why
It’s true most fares have stagnated for a while.
Fuel adulteration. Current generation of Diesel engines is very sensitive to this. Uliza watu wa Transline, KINATWA, MAKOS, etc SACCOs yale masahibu wamejionea pale Afya Centre.
That means profit margins for matatus, taxis etc are getting razor thin because fuel is the primary expense.
