Forget Leicester, Sofapaka is the real fairy tale

Formed in 2002, Sofapaka rose through the ranks to promotion to the Kenya Premier League in 2009. The same year they beat the odds to clinch the KPL title in their first season in the top flight. Sofapaka became the first team to win the KPL on their debut season. Under the leadership of Robert Matano, they also became the only team to have won the Kenya Power Charity Cup since its introduction. Veteran striker John Baraza was top scorer that season with 15 goals. This was an unprecedented achievement in a league that is heavily influenced by money, politics and tribalism. Sofapaka is the real fairly tale.

hizo ni TALES GANI AMA NI TAILS

But Sofapaka is headed towards extinction

But the last time I checked they were at the very bottom of the table.

That is not the point guys. Where they are now does not erase what they have acheived

Sofapaka was indeed a good story. Elly Kalekwa’s organization was immpressive.

But Leicester is a bigger achievement because their budget is much smaller than team like City, United and Chelski which are owned by billionaires. And Leicester does not have the best players. Leicester payroll is 17th in the league. The Chelsea budget is five times larger than Leicester

Sofapaka on the other hand used to have the best players in Kenya. Akina Mugalia, Mulama, Mieno, Baraza etc
