Finally her journey from the land of Madiba starts!

If you remember, she had been found deep down in Cape Town close to four weeks ago.

This search had started in earnest March this year when the bug for a new machine bit. Money was scarce but we ploughed the internet for an F10 nonetheless, having owned an E39 that was sold three years ago, and since then living without a car but two bicycles thanks to hard life, time had come for a change, some good luck had come my way, Uhuru was about to sign a 14.5% bill too, everything was falling in place.

Cars in Europe(UK) were found to be mainly Diesel , dealers there did not even respond to my emails. They must have thought I was “Just another Nigerian”. Frustrated we turned to Australia. total disater! The cheapest one I saw there was a cool 5million Kshs and at 70k km odometer. Then I recalled SA assembles cars. In one week I had a harem of 7 cars to choose from all thanks to the almighty internet. Fired a few mails out, no one cared. One dealer came back but told me car had been sold.

Called on an old friend and passed on a dealer’s website. With a South African referee my queries were finally answered. Ploughed the internet for an export agent, wrote to three and picked the first one who responded.

Meanwhile my unsecured load at Stanchart had been approved. The day the money hit my account is the same day I paid for the car. One week later it made the 400km journey from George to Cape Town. On Monday it was presented to the police for clearance. She sails on Monday, arriving three weeks later. A Cashmere silver 535i will soon be frying mere mortals on the bypass this october. But we have to still find the money to pay for duty and shipping and shipping in a container is no child play. We shall make it if we pray… Updates will come when she lands;)

Looks good. How much is the total cost?

good but still not original.

@Shadows, I am avoiding doing the math yet in case I go insane but purchase was 380k Rands, logistics 600k, not to mention insurance, then yet to face Njiraini and his mboys…I will update all in cost when she lands in the city.

Learnt a few painful lessons though, I was charged 14% VAT, next time I know how to evade that!

Good car, congrats. However, this car is so low it can not make it in some kenyan roads like manyaja and spine. Hence the need to have another one for rough roads. Ujaluo ni gharama

@madova, got it at an official BMW dealership, it did not even show on their website, used other means. If ever you get interested, holla, we will help at a small fee!:D:D

will you update us on your relationship with it…maintance fuel etc…all those things that kenyans really care about

I sure will @hunningale. I have options from 2litres through to 5 litres. Chose 3 littles turbo charged which is a fair balance between power and consumption. It is not an everyday car though so fuel and traffic jam dont bother me much.

I already have Reingold INSTAD and INSTAP installed and reading the manuals as I wait for it to arrive. We will be doing maintenance at home but buying the consumables from Bavaria.:D:D

I also have Esys installed, I will be changing a few funstionalities on just how I want them, for example, walk up to the car and the doors open automatically from 1m away. Cool!
