It’s official. Facebook Inc. just had the biggest stock-market wipeout in American history. Shares tumbled 19 percent on Thursday to close at $176.26 after sales and user growth disappointed investors. The drop translates to a $119.4 billion decline in market capitalization, the largest-ever loss of value in one day for a U.S. traded company
Facebook is in serious decline unless they tweak it with some new additions or may be it has simply run it’s course and needs to be replaced with something more suitable to the current needs.
This is another myspace and yahoo loading. In ten years facebook will be dead. Tech savvy people move to new platforms daily, thats why more than 50 % of US billionaires deal with softwares. Jamaa aslay tu sahii kabisa, msoto ndio hiyo inakam.
These fickle investors do it all the time, dump a company’s shares because of some silly reason, only for it to bounce back. I think there’s a cartel of savvy ones that specialize in creating panic about some stocks, so the price can drop, so they buy, then sell when the price recovers. Even at the time of its IPO, FB stock was thoroughly over valued. Many claimed it was a bad idea to buy it, only for its value to keep rising. Other than FB, they also own instagram and whatsapp, which also have over a billion users each. I don’t think anything will change at the company. If it keeps experiencing these hiccups, Mark zuckerberg might have to step down and allow a professional executive to run it.
Facebook the company is not in decline. It is just peaking because there are only so many people in the world.
You might think that the stock went down because it reported some losses.
NO. It went down because it missed its forecast.
In fact, it reported a 41.9% increase in sales vs last year.
Their revenue was $13.04 billion which was slightly less than what the market forecast - $13.04 billion.
Profit for the quarter was $5.12 billion up from last year’s $3.89 billion.
Myspace never even reached a 10th of Facebook worth.
Facebook revenue and profits have been increasing tremendously every quarter.
Facebook Inc is no longer just a single platform. It is a social media conglomerate.
Facebook will own those new platforms ‘tech savvy’ people will move to.
The one statistics I am certain of is me and my circle of friend of about 200 and their circle of friend which makes it a big network have literally ditched facebook or have scaled down our interaction on facebook. If this is replicated across the board then there you have it. In fact it may appear WhatsApp was purchased to replace facebook eventually.
Whatsapp is a purely chat app not social media app.
And there is no way you can speak for 200 people.
Facebook is just evolving. People might reduce personal posts but still open it religiously for news and entertainment.
Overall the daily Facebook users have gone up to over 1.5 billion people.
You simply want to believe Facebook has declined, while all the numbers point towards the opposite.
Na huku ni mashamba tu…at least the new generation Y and Z aren’t so obsessed with land and we are seeing change in the coming of tech hubs though it might take time.
They’ll survive. One thing you have to commend them for is diversifying. Like someone saying above, it is time to buy FB stock because it will rebound.
Mine is just an opinion informed by what I have observed, you don’t know my 200 or so friends to dispute what I have just posted. A further observation is that WhatsApp is evolving, the status may eventually provide news and entertainment. What about security? WhatsApp is way ahead giving better security features as far as privacy is concerned compared to Facebook. Basically facebook as an application is old school but the company will definitely rejig the application or are already developing a suitable replacement.
While you ditch it after using for some time, do you consider that all those young people finishing high school with nothing much to do are joining it for a ‘new’ experience?
is it possible, some time back i did delete my account and recreated it after some time then recently i tried but i could not,i think this is why these fools tell you to choose someone to manage your account if you die since they wont let you or anyone else delete your acct if you kick the busket…if it is possible to delete kindly niambie the procedure i want out of mukuru fir good.
The average user cares very little about privacy. Otherwise everyone would have left Facebook after Cambridge saga.
Anyway, the only way Facebook the company will die anytime soon is if social media dies. The are ahead of the game in every way, and will ensure they either own or tame any new social media platform that emerges.
