The man accused of stealing shopping being dragged
People in Ngong’ town in Kajiado county were treated to free drama as two women tied up a man and frog marched him through the streets after he tried disappearing with their shopping bag.
The angered women claimed that their culprit had offered to help them carry a bag which had a shopping worth Sh1, 790 after which he vanished with their goodies as one of them stopped at a nearby butchery.
The women took hold of the alleged thief who didn’t have the bag at the time and demanded to know where he had taken it, attracting the attention of the onlookers who joined in seeking to establish the truth.
The poor man told onlookers that he was innocent as the women dragged him through the streets, threatening to take him to the nearest police station if he fails to produce their shopping.
The women said they suspected the thief had sold their stuff to a drinking den in exchange for liquor.
“I had done some shopping, and he told me to let him help me only for him to vanish as I got distracted in the butchery,” one woman said.
The women said there was no way he could have eaten all the shopping as not all things were readily edible when some onlookers suggested he could be hungry and tempted to eat their goodies.
One of the women who was getting frustrated lamented that what angered her most was that she recently lost her job due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and she wondered what she was supposed to eat with her family.
The other woman, who said she was cousin to the victim, said she would not let her cousin be robbed in broad daylight with the kind of tough economic times the country is facing as a result of the pandemic.
The alleged thief, however, maintained his innocence, and after onlookers threatened to beat him claimed that unidentified boda boda rider snatched the bag as the woman entered the butchery.
The witnesses, however, said the story was complicated, and they didn’t know what to believe in leaving the three, who seemed to know each other well, to sort out their issues.
