Yes. It is true.

Hyperscale data centers have a reasonable average continuous power draw PER FACILITY at about ~40 MW. This is an estimate, and for budgeting purposes you can spare some + 15%
We’re talking of the behemoths of facilities that spool up so many devices through out the year and require AC that can cool hell over and over again.

Kenya’s continuous generation capacity is 3300 MW, and at peak demand is what Ruto is claiming to be our production levels, and even so, if we ever exceeded our demand (during draught) or cannot keep up with maintenance schedules we import from Uganda.
It is sad to see Kasongo lie to an elite society that chooses to laugh with him instead of calling him out. When he was DP he sabotaged a Chinese company which wanted to setup shop in Lodwar and generate 1000 MW of clean solar/wind energy.

Swali tu, why do we import huge generators, set them up in Lodwar, import Diesel as well, transport it all the way to Turkana to generate power from there, then transport the power back to urban areas?
What is Turkwel dam supposed to be doing? Anyway if we wanted a DC in Kenya we can get it, not one, not 2 but as many as we can accommodate, more income to the government, more jobs to the yutman

Are all the seven folks operational? If not why? Why do we still have PPPs? What of Olkaria, is it operating optimally? They know what they need to do, they just don’t want to do it.

Nilikua KYM kwa data centers kathaa when I worked in IT a while back. Top 10 energy consuming data centers in the world are in China and Europe, of course na US, and we’re talking of 150MW, followed by 130MW, 120w, on a continuous draw. Huyu Kasongo anaongea kama Ile ngozi ya @Yugni ati 1000 MW, does he know what he’s talking about? That’s how the country is losing a fight due to illiteracy, not that hajasoma, but refusing to unlearn gossips and learning facts.

2003 MW total is still pretty pathetic for a country that considers itself ‘middle-income’. But that’s to be expected from a corrupt microeconomist.

Edit: 3,000 MW.. I forgot it rained a bit.

Kasongo talking out of his ass as usual. How do you go bleating without consulting industry experts kwanza? Clearly everyone in that room has no concept of a megawatt.

I don’t think you should take him that seriously. He’s the same as these other talkers who know the right words, but can’t actually do the thing.
