I first had to look up the meaning of sandbar… Anyway, there is this forest 1,360 acres to be exact called the Molai forest. The forest is on a sandbar which also happens to be the worlds biggest river island, Majuli.
This forest is unique not only because of the sandbar thing but it is also man made, literally planted by a single man named Jadav Payeng. This exemplary man has planted and tended to the trees for over 30 years and he wasn’t casually strewing seeds around, he made sure to diverse the forest with over a thousand plant species. The forest is now home to animals and even tigers and rhinos can be found there from time to time, the sad thing about this though is that some no good poachers have smelt “opportunities” which really sucks.
Jadav did all this because since a young age he noticed the island was eroding away when it rains heavily and decided to grow trees to stop the erosion and to save the place he calls home, he vowed to keep doing so till his last breath. He doesn’t get paid and has never won the nobel prize, he was documented sometime back and that is how the world came to know of him, through the documentary.
A story of an ordinary man who has made an extraordinary mark on the world…
