I was going to start a thread about this topic but hey, congratulations you beat me into it.
I have read that article and one sentence has bothered me. " I don’t know how many am going to lose, I don’t even care" Said Dr. Mwangi.
Really?
Equity bank grew exponentially through massive favouritism by the Kibaki government, sometimes by irregularly winning some tenders worth hundreds of billions.
Those days, or even during Moi era when the bank was under siege, the good doctor and his adminstration must have cut a few ‘illegal’ corners inorder to make it.
Why have they suddenly become too clever?
1200 individuals have been thrown into the streets and we know majority are innocent victims. Very sad.
I am not a member of Ikuity but if I were, I would start the boycott right this morning.
Equity engages in some very shady business. I regularly receive withdrawal notifications on my line for an account that I do not even own or know the owner. Sometimes around 950K gets withdrawn. One time I had a substantial amount in my account and I saw that message ikanishtua sana. I only relaxed after realizing it is not my account but I went and withdrew my cash and took elsewhere
Talk to people on the ground and you’ll realize what Dr was saying was basically a pr gimmick to win public opinion and warrant a widespread malicious onslaught on very innocent employees, and it’s quite unfortunate.
There are terms & rules of engagement that dictate how you make an employee redundant, you don’t just wake up one day and charge them with solicited stuff so that you can throw them under the bus. If it’s redundancy, call it so and pay them their rightful dues.
And yet in 2024 it was ranked the fourth most profitable company in Kenya, after Safaricom, EABL and KCB Bank. They are sacrificing those employees for profits.
Waturedio Ndindi nyoro told us out of the 1 1T debt 800b is paid to local institutions namely banks na insurance companies. So Equity main business is to led government nyinyi watu wa pesa kidogo can go FCK yourselfs.
Niskie wivu kwa jaba tales? The official statistics is that 90% of Kenyans have less than 100k in their bank accounts.
That said, Equity kwangu is just a big sacco.. reliant on small scale farmers with tiny deposits, hence why end month pale tao the ATM line goes around 3 buildings. It’s the very definition of cost cutting operation.. so 1,200 employees being sacked in one day is not a surprise.
I remember sometime last year, I paid my bills using Mpesa to equity pay bill number, that amount got lost along the way. I received the Mpesa confirmation message but equichieth did not send their confirmation message. I called both customer care but they could neither trace it nor reverse it.
Wezi wakubwa sana.
Ata mimi I have been receiving a message from Equity Eti nko na loan using my phone number..I don’t even have an account with Equity .Mimi ni mtu wa cooperative
These ones I know them from random number, I even get them for fictitious containers the messages I am saying came from Equity bank themselves. The one they use to notify you for transactions that cannot be replied.
Pole sana. For me the biggest issue I’ve had with my bank is misspelling my name on my Visa and the staff telling me to use it as is ati ‘itafanya tu’.. I’m like where do they hire these monkeys from? Why is my name spelt perfectly everywhere except on my visa.. which is applied for internally if not to facilitate bank fraud via card swapping aka ‘carding’?
Degenrate minds think people started using bank accounts in 2021.
I’ve stopped using the account (with an outstanding loan to boot) as I wait to hear the bank manager has resigned on the news.
