i wonder how the spanish didnt colonize africa yet they were the closest european power. far away powers like the germans, belgians and the dutch were able to colonise africa the spanish didnt.

Spanish had already enough colonies especially in South America by the time the scramble and partition of Africa started. They were told to keep off the Berlin conference on sharing of Africa by drunkards Bismark and Leopold.
