The real engineers in Kenya are found in the informal jua kali sector. Hawa kutoka uni cannot tell the difference between an adjustable spanner and a pipe wrench

Kindly differentiate between an Engineer and a Technician.
An Engineer with workshop experience can do welding and troubleshoot mechanical problems.
A Technician is good in what he’s trained to do. He may claim to do what an Engineer can do…but throw a spanner in the works and he’s lost.
In short, one cannot do without the other!
An Engineer would not have been able to put together the Titanic, and a Technician would not have been able to design it.

In the video, it looks like the choice of metal is not dictated by any specifications, material wise.
A design should be aesthetically and structurally functional…all the while ensuring that the client will get the most durable design for the least cost.

One institution in Kenya that i know is capable of naturing our engineers, is The Millitary. They have a budget that, if well utilized, can initiate Research and Development projects that can put us on the world arena.
One reason we are excelling in the Field of Information Technology, is due to the low Budget that one needs, to develop projects.

Infact, alot of inventions and innovation come from military funded projects and are then cascaded for use by the public.
The trip to the moon generated a lot of engineering knowledge that greatly made life easier.
Even the Internet begun as a project in the military.
Anyone conversant with DARPA will tell you the amount of Engineering innovations they churn out.

Show me any evidence that road engineers in Kenya do any kind of thinking and kindly don’t mention Chinese contracted projects.

Mkubwa hii ni matusi ama?
Look at all these roads in Kenya, they are designed by Kenyan engineers and constructed by Chinese contractors who are supervised by our very Engineers. Of course there are rogue Engineers but those are just a few rotten apples in the batch.
