Now that we are in an energy crisis so many households will be pushed back to poverty. With rising energy prices across the globe coinciding with climate change it’s evident there won’t respite any time soon. Renewables are yet to replace traditional energy sources hence present a great opportunity to join the party.
For me I feel it’s time to invest in Biogas. It’s a proven technology and there places to go benchmark in Europe particularly Germany. While there are many uses it can be ideal source of heat i.e warming and cooking. There is Welt documentary on how Germany plants corn for use in Biogas production.
Bearing in mind both biogas and Natural gas are primarily 70 - 80 methane, we can see the huge potential at a time natural gas demand is high amid high prices.
Basically producing biogas and refining it ( removing CO2 and sulfur through scrubbing) to make it ready for use.
Have heard and read about such projects in the past but I think the timing was wrong.
One the economics if producing biogas at a commercial level would wouldn’t work as natural gas was cheaper while demand was low.
Two the world wasn’t much concerned about climate change hence no hurry to embrace renewables
Third demand for natural gas has always been low but it’s popularity is making demand unable to meet
Fourth the technology wasn’t available for removing impurities and mxm yield. Basically research lacked
Fifth there weren’t successful projects from which to learn from.
So now the technology exists and enough research papers are also available. The economics have been proven to work and climate change is serious that governments are keen to adopt clean energy. Additionally, since natural gas and biogas are technically methane, the infrastructure already exists hence we are going back to the drawing board. This presents a great business opportunity at a perfect timing when the world is in the middle of an energy crisis
