Electronics Marketing

I dont know how many people are familiar with eng. here. A phone maker can have a quad core processor and then buy another one very highly integrated circuit in one chip for almost all other infrastructure and couple them together. And there you have your phone, very slow, poor graphics, very cheap. The marketing slogan will be quad core processor(UPUSS). For the camera, it depends on the build quality and not the pixelation. I can have a 20megapixel camera(UPUSS), but the camera combines 20 pixels for one real pixel on the image through a method known as sampling. This becomes a 1 megapixel image. Or the image can be 20 megapixels but each pixel has very low quality. This is why most phones have large images with a lot of mchele. And Camera quality depends more on the lenses. A camera with x5 optical zoom 10megapixel is four times better and as expensive as one with x2 optical zoom 20megapixel. An infrared phone camera depends on image reconstruction techniques rather than hardware for quality because it does not have proper camera optics.

So don’t buy a phone based on engineering details because they can be twisted to anything and you may never understand the technical part. Its just too complex than you are told… Buy a phone based on reputation of the manufacturer and your own observation.

Integration is key. If you have a Pentium dual core computer from 2010 or 2008, you will find that it has very many parts inside and was very expensive. It has detachable ports, wires, speakers, chips. they are all high quality and replaceable. It still works today and has very good sound, graphics, keyboard etc. If you get a core i7 from 2015, you will find that It has one small motherboard with everything integrated there, including ports. Thats why ports are on one side for most laptops today. It has a small karatasi karatasi keyboard that rattles like a kayamba and poor soprano phone speakers. This is cheap, delicate, spoils quickly and its is not repairable because of the integration. The marketing slogan is core i7

So its not that today’s things are very cheap. Its just that there is nothing inside.

Zile comps za kitambo zilikua very durable, nilikua na Pentium 3 that served as the server for my cyber cafe for close to 7 years, i would clean the motherboard with a wet cloth when it became too dusty na after kuwasha inakua poa.Todays hardware is very fragile.

Thats why when it comes to phones these techos or infinix however much they come with good specs i never trust them i would rather stick to samsung and sony phones…some of their jellybean models perform better than latest lollipop chinku models…

I have a sony phone from late 2013 and if I do a little wiping with cleaning fluid or moisture I can tell you its new and you will believe me. No scratch or paint chip at all even on the unprotected screen.

Doesn’t this apply for TVs as well with the Contrast Ratio specs. I’d rather go for specific brands even if their technical specification is much lower than some of these unknown brands.

It still does for TVs and music systems.

hapo kumbe ndo unashangaa how come an iphone whose camera is 8.0 pixels has better picture clarity than zingine za 20 pixels…

I can not emphasize this enough

@Rene Descartes nimefanya sales and marketing long enough to know how adverts lie amd the marketing gimmicks used. Its always tough deciding to tell the potential client the naked truth and risk not getting the business, not forgetting una targets umepewa

Let us all accept that there will always be generics! And that a generic is not necessarily a fake!

True. Generic and Counterfeit are two different things.

I have a Sony Xperia Z that looks new even now, and t’was a 2013 model. Now on official Lollipop 5.1.1. It’s important to check electronics carefully before buying. Established brands rarely disappoint, from my experience.

The technos and other new brands have good phones( value for money) below 15,000 ksh pricerange…above 15,000 is where the established brands (htc, samsung etc) now come in with serious products.
