A brief review of my earlier proposal of guarding 2027 election from manipulation was about live streaming the voting process on free platforms like YouTube so that anyone can easily see how many people voted the counting and final declaration.
Going by what happened in by elections, the threat to that plan is what interior CS Murkomen said:
One way to mitigate these is to seek the courts opinion on the matter and also secure proper IDs from IEBC for all who will be streaming. Alternatively, parties can collaborate with media houses to secure badges and then stream to their platforms like YouTube.
If all fails, the nuclear option is to mobilize under a united banner and boycott the election.
That will let IEBC and the government have their dance and emerge without legitimacy.
Unlike when Raila boycotted the repeat election, where all other positions had already been filled, a proper boycott for all positions will be a nuclear bomb that strips the IEBC and government naked if they are not interested in a free and fair election.
Participating in flawed elections is sanitizing them.
Boycotting elections will never happen in a hungry country like Kenya where many hungry individuals are lurking waiting for opportunities. Remember the likes of Ekuru Aukot are still amongst us. Another thing, boycotting elections will not stop Ruto from ruling the country just the way it has not stopped Madam Samia from ruling in Tz.
Because of the dynamics and local interests, I see a boycott is best when we have the presidential election.
So hoping we go for a second round in the event no candidate secures the required Majority then that is the time to boycott. I’ve seen some people outlining a possibility of Ruto engineering a second round voting, boycotting is the solution.
The objective is to deny the winner legitimacy. Imagine in a country with over 16 million voters only a max of 4 million turn out to vote for you. To make matters they be concentrated in very few areas and not spread through out the country!!!
Even if you win, you are a minority lacking legitimacy
