I have a friend who is in the egg market business and the problem is that hakuna soko
Some Indian guy huko Kajiado has a factory worth a billion and commands the market singlehandedly
The guy has about 914 layers and eggs about 200crates zimekaa tu
Ameniomba nimtafutie market.
Anyone have any ideas? Ama adu aje
Let him target boarding schools especially private.
mwambie alete mayai zake wangige makert kesho by 5.30a.m, tray is currently retailing @ksh 270.
Shida ni kenyans dont consume eggs or egg products kama nchi zingine.
In TZ - demand for chips mayai which is consumed by every tanzanian at least once a day ensures millions of eggs are consumed daily.
Halafu in UG and TZ - boiled eggs is a regular daily snack.
Do they lipa kama tender ama its bureaucracy tu
Yea it’s a bit more of a luxury than a necessary food stuff for most people
What about brokers?
mwambie kenya sio Nairobi pekee. Mwambie aeke ka ‘outpost’ briefcase branch at the county level ya kuchukua orders na atasaidika.
what about them?
it all depends with what he wants to do, if he feels that he cannot wait for customers the whole day like the tens of women there, then he can sell his eggs to the brokers at a lower rate.
Farming can be very stressful without proper market. If possible, always look for market before producing. Siku hizi eggs, onions etc are coming in from neighbouring countries at ridiculously cheap prices
All businesses with a low barrier to entry are easily flooded
Mwambie aje sehemu za baridi, huku mayai twauziwa 15 Bob.
Wagige ndio soko ya mayai in Kenya. They are ferried in trucks
And we still complain that hakuna pesa ni mchezo tuko nayo
Roger that
There’s an oversupply of eggs in the market right now, my old lady pia ameshindwa kuuza zake, saa hii kazi ni kuachilia mashuzi makali.
from 2015 some clever guys started bringing in eggs from UG where the prices are very low, I remember having like 50trays in the shop which took nearly 3 weeks to sell yet in normal circumstances izo 50 would be done in a week and i’d sell @ kes 280 per tray.
When we say the government is not doing enough it is because they really aren’t, saa hii kuweka layers ni hasara because the profit margin is too low for such a delicate investment, kabla hao kuku wafikishe 5months ndio waanze kutaga mayai you will have spent alot of money, woe unto you if they don’t hit atleast 80% production rate, utalilia kwa choo.
Tell your friend to lower the price auuze @kes250 or 260 atleast zitamwondokea since january demand huwa chini sana, lakini going foward if he cannot expand the business to around 5000birds to enjoy economies of scale he should exit that biashara, it will drain his capital.
this serekali saidia mentality is the downfall of we Kenyans.
Why are eggs in UG cheaper? btw I don’t buy that story of UG eggs finding there way into Kenya, the distance plus other factors like transport and breakage makes it almost impossible.
Waganda waliharibu bei ya mayayi, karibu niende hasara
Boss I was in the eggs business, eggs are dirt cheap in UG because price of chicken feeds over there is pretty low. Most of the main ingredients in these feeds are sourced from UG and TZ, I know a guy who imports cotton seed cake from UG for his dairy cows.
We need to produce cheaper feeds, that is the big fish domain where the government comes in, for instance to produce cotton seed cake you need to have cotton plantations, we used to have them.in the past until Moi happened. We should not be importing things we can produce.
