You don’t need a trade surplus to be a viable economy. Mercantilism is a discarded economic theory, not to mention that it is impossible for all countries to run surpluses.
Kenya remains configured the way the British set it up. Everything is still determined in Nairobi. And the community that inherited white infrastructure - kikekuyus - benefit most from it and have incentive to retain the same system. What was proposed in 63 was majimboism (decentralization) where every community would manage their own affairs. Unfortunately it never happened and in 2010 we got this watered down concept of devolution. The finance act protests were one indication that counties have no responsibility - the governors were never drawn in the conversation and uproar. In fact at the moment when governors still money not only is there no consequence because their responsibilities are minimal but the allocation system means they still get funding despite wasting what they get.
The idea that Africa is being kept down is total cope. If anything if you’re apple you want an extra 1 billion customers.
fair enough, I’m conviced that Between the Kalenjins dominating security services and Kikuyus dominating capital , the only thing saving other tribes from absolute servitude is the constitution
We are poor because when the colonialist returned to Europe. They left mascots which serves their interests. As yourself as a Kenya we do not have a define foreign policies to deal we other countries. We follow what we are adviced by the west.
Kikekuyu elites who inherited the white system. Decentralization dilutes their power and weakens their hold on the economy. They love tyranny of numbers politics because as you can see, since 2007 the candidate supported by central Kenya has become president. Kikekuyus shouldn’t even complain about leadership because they’ve always gotten their choice candidate at statehouse, including Ruto.
There’s more potential to this country than horticulture, dairy, tea, coffee and tourism.
Kaleniggers benefit from Maize farming subsidy via NCPB where they get a guaranteed market paid for by the rest of Kenya. This country is a joke.
Kikekuyus of course benefit first from sessional paper number 10 and its compounded effect. Today they benefit from the centralized system that still prioritizes their key economic activities at the expense of everyone else. Nothing for sugar, fisheries, beef cattle, etc. Only white highland crops get government intervention - besides maize.
Kikuyus control the Banks. The gov’t relies on banks to buy treasury bills (etc etc). Kenyans rely on banks for loans (to buy real estate, start businesses etc).
Kikuyus control Tea and Coffee (the largest agricultural exports for Kenya). The country relies on that money for foreign exchange (USD).
Kikuyus control the tourism sector (along with some wazungus) which is now one of the biggest foreign exchange earners for GOK.
Diaspora remittances are the biggest FDI for Kenya. Majority of the Kenyan diaspora is Kikuyu.
Kikuyus just have a strong grip over the Kenyan economy. It’s actually crazy. Personally, if I were of a different tribe I’d shoot any kikuyu in sight. We have too much control. Other tribes should gang up and demand equal distribution of resources. Otherwise, most of you might end up as slaves in the next 20 years.
without statistics , watu wamesema vitu generally true lakini normal distribution applies, without a doubt Kyuk & Kale Elites plus Patel & Co wamedominate uchumi on behalf of the mzungus
This isn’t control. It’s just perpetuation of the Colonial State. This is why 60 years after beberu left we’re still dealing with shit he left like coffee and tea. The fact that FDI is critical is further proof of our weak economy. 52 million and our export value is less than Tunisia.
Kikekuyus simply inherited colonial state and effects have compounded. Secondly they implemented sessional paper number 10 to prioritize developing central Kenya over other areas. Lastly, kikekuyus benefit most from Nairobi focus and expansion of Nairobi metropolitan area into their ushagos.
When we urge people to push majimbois they think we’re being ethnic when all we want is to dismantle the colonial state
You’re stupid. Nobody wants to hurt kikekuyus. What periphery of Kenya wants is to stop being marginalized. There’s more agriculture potential to this country than milk and coffee and Macadamia.
You’re retarded. America and other developed federal countries have far more fiscal decentralization than we do. For example KENHA should be the only national road body. The rest of the road money should go to counties but Uhuru’s anti devolution govt + that of Ruto have not enabled this. The central government hasn’t left a sector like agriculture to the county governments either.
The centralization around Nairobi is the problem you dimwit. Look at the Lake Victoria region, stretching through Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. That’s one of the most populated areas in Africa. It should be an economic hub. Mombasa should be going toe to toe with Dar es Salaam having been identified as part of China’s maritime silk road. Ranching should be happening in Northern Kenya but all we hear is Coffee and Milk. Look at how sugar has struggled. Do you think Western counties alone can revive it when Kenya’s sugar is 3x the global ex-works prices? You need to alter tax, power and infrastructure policies to change it.
You can’t “work” without policy. The fact that you think it’s possible shows how you kikekuyus support the status quo. You’re a beneficiary of the broken country so don’t understand talk of changing policy. Counties/regions need to be empowered to prioritize their affairs. The allocation system in our devolved constitution has very weak responsibilities for counties and has no repurcussions for governors who steal money.
Ask yourself this, why is the focus on Ruto Must Go? Why in the Finance Bill protest nobody focused on governors? Because they are irrelevant. Because everything is still centralized in Nairobi.
