Instead of each East African country having its own airline and struggling to make profit why don’t we just create a East African airways with each country owning equal shares or according to financial and asset contribution and have equal employment or according to population and make it an autonomous agency . I am very certain it will make profit, be sustainable, viable and have huge impact on the African continent

BECAUSE POLITICS… and national pride/ image.
These two reasons are exactly why Gava insist on propping up a loss making KQ no matter how deep the loss pit gets.
You can’t have all those regional carriers landing or connecting via the regional hub JKIA and yet KQ is dead and buried.
EAC is actually way better off as one country (KE-UG-TZ-RW-BU-SS) but national politics can never allow such a vision to be truly actualized. Western powers would also strongly fight such a union, treating it as an ominous threat to their power and influence. It’s the mantra of divide and conquer, since the colonial days.
We’ve been here before, and we all know why it couldn’t work out. Airlines are very tricky businesses, and governments have always stepped in to literally fund national carriers for the sole purpose of national security and economic stability. All these airlines, like Ethiopian, Qatar, Etihad, Emirates, and so on, are heavily funded by their respective governments to strategically hide their challenges. If you were to be shown actual books for most airlines without the secret funding from their central governments, you would be surprised. Loss-making is very normal in that sector. So, if EAC was to have a single airline, kuna watu watashindwa kulipa madeni alafu tutarudi kwenye tupo tu sahizi.
Kughula.co.ke will sabotage this great idea
Unity of any African nations in any big commercial activity is not in western powers best interests.
Wasn’t that idea tried back in the day and it failed miserably. Legend has it, Kenya waited until all the planes where landed in Nairobi then bailed out of the deal and claimed all the planes. Nyerere was pissed off no fuck. Tanzanian’s have never trusted us since then.
