East Africa Portland Cement

They have plans to retrench 1000 of its 1500 employees starting next year.

Posted earlier. What caught my attention is Chairman William Lay. Was one time chair at GM. Sometime there was an issue about citizenship! GM has a turnover greater than GDP of some countries.

ha, fire 2/3 of your staff, kwani walikuwa na watu redundant kiasi gani!

employee turnover ama revenue?

You have just stole what i was to write @Okiya With booming real estate business how can Portland Cement be making such huge loses to fire 1K staff.Wait this the Co. Naikuni took over as a director?

Oops pole. Haven’t seen your post. @Deorro merge this post to the older one.

@shocks These parastatals are over staffed. People have duplicate roles. Kuna parastatal moja I hear iko na plumbers 100

That company is technically insolvent…

Very very bad news

At Kenya Pipeline , hundreds of Kalenjins on permanent and pensionable pay as tea girld , cleaners , grass cutters.

When Orange set up shop by buying telkom there were fears of job losses. The GM calmly told a press conference that it was not the intention of orange to retrench but rather they would create jobs but then paused and asked if however there are only 2 vehicles whereas there are a 100 drivers on the payroll people should do the math.

So sad losing the source of livelihoods. kacounty governments pia kuna alot of duplication of roles. People attend duties on duty rota.

@Okiya is that going to affect the price of cement? What happened with the Nigerian tycoon. Dangote’s cement? Has he managed to penetrate the market?

There’s this time Maasais stormed into the premises and demanded that they be given a specific quota of jobs as locals… points to that 100 drivers and 2 vehicles scenario exactly hehehe
