Planet earth includes the solid, liquid and gaseous matter (atmosphere) that are held together by the gravitational force. So it’s not a workable idea, unless the plane flies out into space, because the earth rotates and revolves with all its matter… just like a fly in a bus has to put in effort(fly) to the back of the front of the bus and does not just float from the front to the back
