A furious diplomatic spat played out between Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo after Congolese intelligence officers made a cross border pursuit of Deputy President William Ruto’s helicopter into Kenya.

According to confidential sources that spoke to Kenyan News Day, DR Congo intelligence officials are convinced that DP Ruto’s chopper was used to smuggle up to 5 tonnes of expensive solid gold out of Congo into Kenya. The gold is reportedly worth a staggering $138 million (Sh14 billion).

The drama started playing out when senior Kenya defence officials were alerted of a foreign aircraft with armed personnel requesting to fly into Kenyan airspace in hot pursuit of DP’s chopper which was returning to home following Ruto’s official visit to Congo.

The DRC security officials allegedly told air traffic control they believed criminal elements were carrying gold smuggled out of their country using the Deputy President’s diplomatic immunity.

Ruto made an official visit to Congo Brazzaville on 12th September using his personal chopper and soon disappeared into Congo Kinshasa only returning to Kenya a day to the decisive parliamentary debate on the controversial fuel levy.

Before he departed Kenya, Ruto ignored security advise to take a fixed wing aircraft as he was going to overfly swathes of Congo forest which are controlled by anti-government rebels. It would appear then decision to fly by helicopter was deliberate and convenient.

In Nairobi, despite demands from Congolese sleuths, the chopper in question has been promptly hidden under the pretext that it flew out of Kenya for routine service in South Africa after dropping off its VIP passenger. This explanation has only incensed the Congolese whose Senior government officials have already made contact with Kenya’s foreign affairs ministry demanding to inspect the helicopter.

Desperate to keep the story under wraps, DP Ruto’s Mediamax and The Star newspaper have this week both filed reports claiming Kenyan police launched investigations into alleged smuggled gold.

It’s suspected that some dealers where embedded in DP’s delegation and decided to use his chopper for smuggling as a way toward making quick money to supplement dwindling corruption money that has been impeded by President Uhuru Kenyatta fight against corruption.

Consequently, a multi agency task force comprising DCI, KRA, KCAA officials are probing the matter after receiving orders from Interior CS Fred Matiangi who is acting under instructions of President Kenyatta.

The President is concerned about maintaining good relations with Congo but angry that such a scandal could erupt as he is about to travel to the UNGA when DRC minerals have been placed under sanctions by the UN for abetting insecurity in the great lakes region.

Perhaps even worse, the smuggling of the gold flies in the face of the purported fight against corruption and denies Kenya much needed revenue in import duties and other taxes.

In March 2011, DRC President Joseph Kabila flew in for emergency talks with President Kibaki over huge consignments of gold stolen and smuggled into Kenya from his country by a cartel suspected to be very close to the Kenyan presidency.

I have to say whoever is funding this propaganda is coming too fast.

Would Uganda allow an armed DRC aircraft to overfly it’s territory in pursuit?
Let’s start from there.

flying 5 tonnes of cargo on a helicopter, plus passengers :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: , then this

. dang !!! this means the helicopter was flying at higher speeds than the said aircraft. and how many hours will it take to fly a helicopter from Kinshasa to Nairobi, and how many stopovers does one need ?
i seriously need to go back to school. education is key.

The maximum weight his type of helicopter can carry is 1200 pounds. How it was able to carry 5tonnes (11,000 pounds) is a mystery.

True or not tunajua The Butcher Of Sugoi ni mwiss.

5 tonnes load take off, need a millitary grade or special purpose helicopter. @Okiya, how many kilometers can that thing fly before refueling ? anyways watch this to get a rough idea on

Arap mashamba his stomach betrays him. He marauds himself as a hustler nani mwizi, land grabber, womanizer, cunning, murderer.

with a range of 662 km, the copter would have had to stop twice to refuel, just to clear DRC airspace. propaganda requires some basic intelligence.

Fake News. 5 tons on the chopper described just isnt doable. You would probably need a Chinook helicopter. And I doubt the Ugandans would let an armed plane fly over its territory in pursuit of a Kenyan Deputy President ati because of some gold. And which helicopter can outrun a fixed wing aircraft in the first place? Even the American Osprey helicopter which has a dual helicopter mode and fixed wing mode cant outrun a normal fixed wing aircraft.

Looks like the RAO/Samoei feud has spread to cyberspace with RAO spreading propaganda and firing the first cyberspace salvo vs Ruto. Lets wait for Rutos cyberspace response to this one.

5 tonnes?

Kenya Today is Ojinga’s mouthpiece.

Wadau, sasa mmekuwa aviation experts? :D:D:D:D:D

raila hataki mchezo. ni kufukuza kutoka jubilee, na kuua chama kama vile aliua jogoo.

Wewe hapana @mbwakali hii ni mharo kamili

It’s only that you guys are intelligent, these rumours will be the key discussion points in Bunge la mwananchi, Kibera changaa dens and kangemi/Kawangware Busaa dens. And it will be believed as a scientific truth.

Since we are talking about 5 tonnes:
1 ounce (28 grams) of gold $ 1100.
5 tonnes would be at least $200 million = 20 billion.

Kenya is a place for billionaires. If your report doesn’t have the word billions, nobody will read it.

And FYI : Congo’s good production was 37 tonnes in 2015. So this report claims DP took 15% Congo’s gold production in 1 trip.

Exactly

Precisely. This propaganda isnt targetted at most guys who comment here, but the areas that you mentioned. And people who live in those areas far outnumber people who comment here and such. So from the politician’s perspective, its a smart move though from our perspective here, we can easily debunk such nonesense.

correction kidogo, an ounce of gold is 31.1 grams, 28 grams ni ya kununua viazi pale marikiti.
