Do they get revenue from ads?

Running a station is hard, apart from wages, running costs and paying the broadcast fees i.e monthly fees to the digital transmission provider signet/star. Ad revenue isn’t that big unless you are very effective is selling and marketing them. Even worse the over 80 T.V stations are cannibalizing themselves fighting over the same clients and offering even cheaper rates. Most of these digital T.V stations are not standing on their own feet but by the seed money or rich owners finances. What they have done well is they fought and took a big share cumulatively of established T.V stations revenues and viewership. Stations like KTN make a fraction of what they used do, only News and prime time adverts are keeping them going. The days of charging 300,000 for a 30 sec advert on news are over.

they get ads but they are not very good at keeping clients and in Mombasa most are used to radios. Pwani TV is yet to establish itself firmly in the market there
