Is it true that diesel vehicles require more maintenance.Ive also heard that Kenyan diesel is dirty and can damage engines is this true?
What I know is that generally, oil drainage intervals are shorter for Diesel engines than they are for petrol engines (Jap models).
Our local diesel generally has higher sulfur content than that found elsewhere, hence the reason we tend to keep off ex-UK Diesel engines.
What I have learnt na diesel engine is to follow my conscience. Hata kama odometer inasoma 2000km since service na Service tag inasoma 5000km. As soon as I feel my engine has gone through a heavy usage I change the oil immediately. 4 yrs and counting na sijawai Fungua engine hata moja ati imeknock. Mind you gari ni za mzigo and sometimes go all day without offloading.
We do not refine oil in kenya, and therefore this issue of our diesel being ‘dirty’ is old wives tales, unless adulterated with kerosine locally, and still this does not make much economic sense. low Sulphur diesel is what is locally available in all petrol stations for the last couple of years.
I drive a diesel van, and have had two diesel saloons. Their service costs are exactly the same as their petrol equivalents if not cheaper, with similar service interval. In fact total have a diesel engine oil rated for 10k kilometers.
What happened to changamwe…?
Closed down. Obsolete equipment.
So sad i think people lost their jobs
i hear you only need to change a part (nimeahau jina) from the european car engine and replace it with the part from the japanese car engine and youre sorted.
Sio injector nozzles zinaletanga upuzi juu ya deposits? na pia valves and rings juu ya kuisha I guess. Diesel engine operate at very high pressure and temperature.
Problems are similar to direct four petrol nikidhani.
Vibrations is mojor cause
Huko tulitoka. Most new/modern Diesel engines are so quiet and devoid of the vibrations of yore that one would easily mistake them for petrol engines.
Very true technology has moved in solving this ,but tey will ’ ‘ngorota’ along their life span
Diseal engines are ok…till you get one with a diseal particulate filter. Will likely cause problems with the kenyan sludge we call diseal oil… btw to prove to you our deseal is dirty… if you can get a chance and see the people who refill safaricom boosters generators… ask them to show you their diseal…its diffrent from the alduterated one you buy from filling station. Thisone is clear like water not yellow goldish
DPF unang’oa na kuweka emulator. Problem fixed. Will cost you about 15k for most of these vans.
Emulator??? Never heard of it before. Tell me about it… i have been avoiding the toureg just because of this
It’s a software as well as hardware fix, which I’ve seen used so far in Hiace, Bongo/Vanette & Caravan.
Oh.you talking of bongo and hiace and caravan… what of german vehicules… its never easy to get around
Who is doing it locally?
Avoid German diesel cars unless ni actross, axor etc
Ati adulterating diesel with kerosene does not make economic sense? Boss you don’t know what you are talking about
