I am now in shagz and am thinking of dairy farming as a revenue source I have 1.5 acres I can plant rainfed supernappier.
Can buy an extra acre if needed.
and later lease 2-4 acres for maize silage/nappier later at 5-8k per acre per yr (800-1000mm rainfall regions)
I am aware that even with basic structures breakeven takes 2-3 yrs and have money to “burn” until then
I am a beginner
My plan is to start with 2-3 (like 6m intervals) 6-9month “decent” quality heifers from good bulls/dams and breed sexed in 12-16m to build my herd and improve its genetics and yield over 6-8yrs to as much I can sustain them
My medium-term goal is 2000l per month (67l daily) and 3000-3500l (100-120l) with my local area selling at 47kes/l. I hear cows eat half.
Long-term goal is herd growth and genetic improvement to 25-30l per day per cow rather than immediate profits
Any advice?
