Luhyas combined have been more than kikuyus for ages. The reason it doesn’t manifest in voting patterns is multifaceted but the majority one is that Luhyas are not a homogeneous group as the Kikuyu. For a more meaningful comparative analysis you need to compare luhyas to GEMA. As yourself why the colonial powers broke up Gema to individual tribes but retained Luhya, Kalebjin and Miji Kenda etc

I think to compared Luhya to GEMA it should be a comparison of LUHYA+LUO and GEMA. Since the two groups would comprise of ethnic communities that are closely related, intermarried and vote in similar ways and they are also neighbors

Luhyas have nothing in common a luhya from vihiga has to converse in swahili if he goes to bungoma the same cannot be said about kikuyu and even gema as a whole.

That’s an imbalanced comparison the Luhyas have Isukha, Idakho, Banyore, Wanga, Banyala, Batsotso, Bukusu, Tiruki, Maragoli, Kisa, Mariachi, Samia, etc Kikuyu are only Kikuyu, why add to the Luhya numbers by bringing in a community that has nothing in common with the Luhya

The Luhya + Kamba unity in voting within nairobi has conspired to deny Kikuyus any county wide political seat in Nairobi since devolution. Maybe with the split of Kambas to join kiuks in 2027 the Kikuyu may have a governor or senator in nairobi for the first time.
