It was a cold Saturday morning and looking out, the winter was truly coming. Most of the trees had shed their leaves.
The chill out there was nothing though compared to the chill in this apartment. The atmosphere that is. It was cold and tense. You could cut the tension with a knife. This had been the case now for 2 weeks. Since the big fight things seem to have got very chilly.
Despite my best efforts, the warmth and happiness that once graced this home were no where to be seen. I knew something had to change as this wasn’t good for both of us. I needed to clear my head and make a decision.
To this end I decided to go for a country drive. There were very few cars and I blasted music in my car and sang at the top of my voice to Tina Turner’s, ‘You are simply the best’ as I meandered on narrow country lanes.
I could feel myself start to relax. I then stopped by a river. To my relief there was no one there as usual. I turned off the music, turned the engine off and let my chair back. I closed my eyes and started thinking. Where did it all go wrong? What will I do? Is the situation salvageable? For what felt like a long time my mind went round and round.
The gentle purr of the river helped keep my thoughts calm.
I then made up my mind. I was going to give my man an ultimatum.It wasn’t doing either of us any good living in this tense atmosphere. I was willing to put big argument behind us if he was. If he wasn’t then we were going to have to take a break from our relationship.
Just then, I heard the roar of an engine and the unmistakable grinding of wheels on the gravel next to me. I sat up and looked out the window. That jeep looked familiar. Then it dawned on me. This was the man that owned a horse farm up the road. He also happened to be the most eligible bachelor for miles and miles.
