Dear Ktalkers

I have constructed Shops at prime area.
Its Busy highway facing.
Its in Malindi, kilifi county.
Whenever someone enters from Mombasa enetering malindi will see my shops first.
90% completed.

Now this post is mostly for accountants.
I need advice.
I heard COMMERCIAL RENTAL PROPERTY TAX IS 30%
I’m new to this. Plz be easy on explaining.
I don’t want to pay that tax… I’m tired of being a good tax payer. Government haina maana.

Details about shop
5 shops front facing, 2 shops on the side
Planning to rent about 30 or 35k
Take 150k aprox for all the shops

Some say tax ni same as residential property
Some say ni 30%
Some say ikona VAT, for which I’ll have to open a company.

Someone to plz advice me.
Its road facing and malindi is a small town so kra will know for surely kuna rental hapa.
I’m not saying i don’t want to pay tax, I’m saying is there a way to reduce or evade it legally.

There are serious people then there is people like you who bring no meaning.

As a landlord , you are only required to file and pay Monthly Rental Income (MRI) tax for your 150k income per month currently at 7.5%.

Additionally, there is a new circular requiring landlords to file and pay 1.5% of the gross rental income as housing tax( enforcement is not yet 100%)

VAT on commercial rental income is only for landlords earning more than five million per annum.
