China’s debt-trap diplomacy

I don’t mind engaging you, so I will highlight what I said before.

I appreciate your sincere approach. But I am here to inform you that tying ourselves in needless debt is not the only option we have, is it?

What other options do we have?

But let us even leave that up there alone… The African Development Bank. Ever heard of it? Why is it not operational in the manner in which it was envisioned in the spirit and letter of its mission and vision statement when it was formed decades ago? What we are “benefiting” from are frameworks developed by other countries, that were formed, in similar fashion, to what we call African Union, African Development Bank, and many other bodies within Africa that can help us realize a better Africa without having to be nyoroshwad for our money by colonialists in every form; China, Western, US, India, Brazil, Russian and whatnot.

We cannot just give up and narrow our thinking to China and the West as the only sources of our finance and technology. Where is the spirit for the betterment of our continent? You mean if China/ the west don’t give us money then we are doomed? aaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, hapana. Nimekataa huo ufala wa wazi.

Germany, Netherlands and so many economies developed after many years of war through periodical plans. Germany had its five year plans. Netherlands had various plans which it undertook without necessarily having to look up to other economies to hand them money that came with attachments like having to allow them to bring us basically everything save for Onyango and Wafula to do the “kazi ya mkono”…

Hapana, we are thinking below our threshold. Having to wake up everyday to wage a war of words between those who think Chinese debt is okay against those who mention the disadvantages, but are secretly seen as guys who are trying to belittle the “advancements” made by whatever regime is in power is in itself a very silly game played amongst grownups who pride in having gone to school. Hapana, nimekataa. China inatukula game moja mbaya na lazima tuseme. We cannot take it every time that the slight mention of the problems with Chinese debt has to be equaled with the West for some reason. That is as silly as saying that I prefer dieing by being drowned than by being poisoned. You are dieing all the same, my fren.

Wacha niachie hapo. Ikiwa nimesema point, ijulikane, sio kuamka hapa kila siku kuongea vitu vya maana vinapuuzwa juu ya some silly relation to politics by those who cannot think beyond their political inclination.

Your rants are good my friend. However even that AU AfDB you mentioned earlier are still being sponsored by the West. Kujitoa ni kazi mjamaa coz our problems originate from different sources, sio ata loans. Even trade issues bado tunanyanyaswa where you find the rules are set to ensure that Western countries’ farmers and traders continue having undue advantage

Reminds me of a book about Kinjeketile of the ‘majimaji’ rebellion fame in colonial TZ. Them people came crying that the Arabs were too hard on them and that it was better being slaves under the Germans…nakubaliana nawe even if choices are limited at least we can negotiate better deals na pia tukae radar otherwise nchi itaenda…

When you are poor, you need to incur debt to execute any project (basic economics). Since the Martians are not yet into lending, you have to turn to your fellow earthlings. Here you have a choice on where to borrow from. You could go to loan sharks, banks, friends, or relatives. I could tell you for certain, Western=loan sharks, Chinese=friends.

I guess it’s because the Jubilee government can do no wrong so if in their infinite wisdom they’ve decided that excessive Chinese debt is good for us, we do not have to engage our brains to think about it coz the government has already done the thinking for us.

Yeah, its imposibru to do it without debt. But practices like importing manual labour or letting the Chinese decide what projects we should undertake (what, IMO is what I suspect is our current situation) are dumb and indefensible.

I think Mr Chief Apologist knows exactly what he is doing. He’s a master of diversion and the cheer team swallows it whole, ALL THE TIME !

China inatukula game moja mbaya na lazima tuseme. We cannot take it every time that the slight mention of the problems with Chinese debt has to be equaled with the West for some reason.

Absolutely. Anyone who knows the history of China knows they think in centuries and multiples of centuries. Meanwhile we are sitting on the other end of the table thinking in tomorrows headline or the re-election in a few months.

Chinese make deals with leaders with no regard to whether they are corrupt or abuse human rights.Thats why africa loves chinese debt.
Western debt however is pegged on good governance, responsible use of funds. These funds also come with incentives for the local population to take management of the projects and skills transfer.
Its sad that the west’s pre condintions of zero corruption on loans disbursed is politicized as “neo colonialism”
I would rather take a loan from germany where I can expect tourists to come spend money here than china who come with all their workers and import everything from china

:D:D:D:D

On what basis do you say that? When and why did the chinese suddenly decide to become ‘friends’?

Imagine the SGR is not even two months old in operation. Newly-acquired trains already have mechanical problems, but instead of raising hell and demanding an explanation for the same, we accept “help from our Chinese friends”, which we will pay for. Pay for a problem that has just sprung up on a newly-acquired train! But when this is mentioned, we resort to comparisons between which master is better! Nani alituroga kusema ukweli?! Hata radio ya elfu tano huwa na warranty ya miezi kadhaa ama hata mwaka moja banaaaaaaaaa.

at least China keeps off politics try the west they will literally Colonize you again They will install leaders they want.

in other news… RWNBP

Friends do not exploit you, so the Chinese and the West are the same the difference is the Chinese are entrapping us using goodies just the same way some colonialist used to bring gifts to some tribal chiefs before they completely colonized them.

Its all about world Domination China is the new world Empire and no one can do anything about it.
Now for the first time they are establishing a Military Base pale Djibouti, next watakua kama America bases everywhere we are just Pawns in the Big Chess Game.

Good governance=swing as I command, Responsible use of funds=let me decide how you use the money I lend you. I suggest you have a read of “Confessions of an Economic Hitman.” by John Perkins, which offers an operative’s account of how Western aid operates. If the West were humans, no child in this world would go to bed hungry no matter their circumstances.

China is not and has never attempted to dominate anyone. It is simply trying to secure its corner in a hostile world. It has had humiliating experiences from the past like having the British sell heroin to the Chinese population at gunpoint.Over the centuries, China has learned that no one can secure you apart from yourself. They are simply trying to claim their rightful place in this planet.

China is merely investing it’s excess capacity. You should be grateful that in their quest to link Europe and China they have included Kenya in the highway (of the Maritime Silk Road). You can actually use train from London to Beijing.

If you’re going to believe Western publications that it is colonization that is your problem. Remember the West refused to forgive debt despite the colonization they subjected us to. Neither are they apologetic over their genocides and Apartheids that allowed creation of countries like New Zealand, Australia and USA. Atleast China is showing confidence to invest in poor risky countries while the West has decided to convert it’s Bretton Woods Institutions into a conduit for channelling private investment (you think private money cares about eliminating poverty?).
