TAZARA is back! Zambia, Tanzania and China have signed a historic $1.4 billion agreement to modernise the iconic TAZARA Railway — the same railway many of us grew up with, and the one that shaped my childhood journeys between Kasama, Kapiri Mposhi and the Copperbelt in the late 1970s and 1980s.
In this episode of the Bridges to Prosperity series, I take you through the history, emotion, and future significance of this massive deal. We revisit the origins of TAZARA in the 1970s, the friendship that built it, and the memories so many families share from travelling on this legendary line.
Then we explore what this new investment means for:
– Zambia’s exports and economy
– Tanzania’s role as a regional trade hub
– Jobs, development corridors and new opportunities
– Regional integration and Africa’s economic future
This is more than a railway upgrade.
It is a rebirth of a symbol of unity, sacrifice and progress.
