Chichewa is spoken in Malawi as the national language and eastern parts of Zambia. In Zambia its normally referred to as Chinyanja, a basically diluted and urban Chichewa (sheng ya Chichewa). A Luhya friend, a Maragoli, new to Malawi could fluently converse in the language after only two months!
