Cheki Maneno: Buying a Bike

Thanks to @The.Black.Templar @Mkufuu, @Bus guys are getting interested in cycling which is a very gd way of keeping fit while having fun. Initial investment in cycling gear is high depending on kind of bike you want (not like running which you can do barefoot) but at the end of the day its worth it.
Let us look at the qualities of a gd bike.
When shopping around for a bike avoid the supermarkets and highend bike shops instead look for guys who import secondhand bikes, you are going to get a better bike at a nicer deal from these guys.
Make sure to get an all alumminum bike frame, this is much lighter and when you get used to it you can go faster and further. Lift up the bike and feel its weight, if its made of steel you will find it heavy and the fancy colors may fool you into thinking its a good deal.

prices vary depending on what it is you are looking for, but ide say for a good one around 15k and above

look for these guys http://www.wheelsofafrica.or.ke/
they usually import alot of good quality second hand bikes. Most of the guys you have mentioned up there source them from these guys.

@Meria Mata why aren’t you mentioning those second hand bikes in msa? I had to find a map to remember the name of the place, but I still can’t. I think its somewhere between Makupa or Shimanzi. We got a really nice second-hand bike at a good price for my nephew a few years back. Ex-UK … yeah, I think it was ex-UK.

Do they still sell bikes there?

Part 2

Rims.

Like the frame make sure your rims are aluminium, steel rims tend to rust very fast coz of the humid conditions in most parts of the country. Hebu cheki ile bike ulinununulia motto wako nakumatt uone. Kitu ingine ya muhimu ni eti maka sure your rims have quick release pins, sio mambo na maspanner number 14 and 15 kila saa wataka ziba kiraka au kubadilisha tubeor tire. The quick release mechanism was meant to e used in races where every second counts but it made its way to all gd bikes due to its simplicity.

Pedals

Make sure your pedals are made of metal. Zile za plastic are not long lasting and also don’t look good.
Insist that the plastic pedals be removed before you pay for that bike.
vile hawa watu hufanya nikutoa vitu nzuri kwa bike sababu you the customer dont know and will never find out
